Ideally  protective styles like braids, weaves, and wigs are supposed to give your hair a break form daily manipulation and styling, however these styles may contribute to your hair loss from the tugging and pulling it takes to create these looks. The strain on your hairline may result in traction alopecia. 

This also goes for glues, adhesives and wig caps which may prevent the scalp from breathing and yanking at the hair line in order to maintain the style.  Some women my even experience an  allergic reaction to these products resulting in hair loss. 

 

Stop using Edge Controls

When I say edge control I don’t only mean the gels and pomades, I’m also talking about reducing the amount of heat and brushing you apply at your hair line. Contrary to popular belief, they do not need to be slicked down and manipulated all the time. Give your hairline a break.

Start Doing Scalp Massages 

Scalp massages are a great way to stimulate your scalp to encourage hair growth. A daily 5 minute scalp massage will encourage your blood vessels to increase blood flow and circulation to your scalp and hair follicles.
