Do This to Avoid Heat Damage

We all know winter is silk press and blowout season.

Now's the time to rock your favorite heated styles and show off that length you worked so hard for.

As a stylist, I'm not opposed to my clients using heat at home. In fact, most times I recommend it to those who have trouble styling their hair when it's in it's curly state. For most people, straighter styles are easier to manage.

But just because I'm giving the green light on heat, doesn't mean you can  pull out your blow drier and have a field day. It is so important to prep and protect your hair before using any hot tools. This will ensure you won't see any damage when your curls revert back.

The last thing we want to do is cause a set back on our curl journey.

So check out these tips to make sure your curls keep curling even after heat styling.

4 Steps for Avoiding Heat Damage

Always Use a Leave in Conditioner

After you've thoroughly cleaned and deep conditioned your hair, use a leave in conditioner for added hydration. Heat styling is super drying, so you want to give your curls as much moisture as possible from the start.

The Emergency Miracle Treatment is a light weight leave in that will penetrate moisture into the hair without leaving it feeling greasy or weighed down. Infused with silk proteins, it will repair and protect your hair from any damage.

Prime Your Hair For Heat

To get a smooth and silky blowout, prep your hair for heat with a blow dry primer. Le Deux is my favorite heat protectant to use in the salon because it uses proteins and minerals to hydrate, nourish, and smooth out any unruly hairs. This way you can avoid that dry crunchy feeling you usually get after a blow dry.

Apply an Oil to Seal and Protect

Lastly, seal in all that moisture using an oil or serum with heat protection. Amethyst oil is my go-to because it has CBD oil to soothe the scalp, while amethyst provides heat protection and speeds up drying time. An oil will also make sure you get the silkiest  and shiniest results.

Work in Sections

Besides using the right products, this is probably the MOST important tip. The quickest way to get heat damage is to keep passing heat through the same section over and over again. To avoid this work in smaller sections. When you do, you will use less heat per section and you will get through your head much faster!
