How to Prevent Single Strand Knots
Single strand knots and split ends are the enemy to anyone's hair growth journey. If left untreated, they can cause serious damage like matting, breakage, and even hair loss.
The worst part is curly hair is more prone to tangles because the strands tend to swirl and knot around each other.
If you are experiencing an excessive amount of knots:
Your hair may be very dry
You may have a lot of split ends or damage
You're not detangling your hair properly.
Check out the tips below to help you prevent anymore single strand knots and tangles.
How to Prevent Single Strand Knots
Book Your Next Trim
I hate to break it to you, but there's no way you're going to be able to save every single strand knot. Especially if you've been accumulating them for a while. Your best bet is to start fresh and book yourself a trim or haircut. This will also get rid of any damaged or split ends that may be hindering your growth.
Detangle Your Hair with a Deep Conditioner
We already know that dry hair causes knots, split ends and breakage, so it's vital that we shampoo and deep condition our curls on a regular basis. The Deep Repair Treatment is great because it won't only moisturize but strengthen curls with keratin protein. I recommend deep conditioning every 7 - 10 days to prevent dryness and improve manageability.
When applying your deep conditioner use this time to gently finger detangle any knots. The slip of the conditioner will make it easier for you to get through your curls without causing breakage. Then follow up with a detangling comb or brush to further help you distribute your conditioner throughout your hair.
Use a Leave in Conditioner in between Wash Days
Did I mention how important it is for curly hair to stay moisturized? A leave in conditioner will be your saving grace in between wash days.
The Emergency Miracle Treatment will boost your hair with moisture and help you to refresh your style, all without greasiness. I love to use it on my blown out hair to help me detangle and reset my style. It's enough moisture to hydrate my hair but light enough so it won't revert my curls.
Use an Oil to Seal in Moisture
After you apply a moisturizing product you always want to seal it with an oil. A light weight oil like the Amethyst Oil will not only lock in moisture but penetrate your strands so it won't cause product build up. An oil is also great for keeping your strands lubricated so they won't tangle against themselves.
